Weezer Announce New Self-Titled Album and Tour

Watch new “King of the World” video

Weezer have announced their 10th studio album. The eponymous LP, which is also being referred to as “The White Album,” will be self-released this spring.

In addition to sharing previous singles “Do You Wanna Get High?,” which they released last year, and “Thank God for Girls,” the Santa Monica group have unveiled the black-and-white video for new song, “King of the World.”

The album, which is available for pre-order now, will be released on April 1st. In addition to the new material, the band will head out on a U.S. tour. Panic! At the Disco will join Weezer on the road when the tour hits Houston on June 10th. The 40-plus city tour goes on sale on January 22nd, but those on the band’s mailing list can access pre-sale tickets.

Referring to the album as an “L.A. beach album,” Weezer leader Rivers Cuomo shared details about their latest effort in a statement.

“The inspiration behind the songs were my experiences hanging around the Westside of Los Angeles, which has been our home since Weezer began. Hanging out with people in Venice and Santa Monica, the beach, the Hare Krishnas, the Sikh on roller blades with the guitar, girls on Tinder within a 4 mile radius, seeing other bands, the kids from La Sera. I would just tweet out ‘does anybody wanna hang?’,” he wrote. “And then I’d get together with people who responded and talk about life. I love California. I wanted the album to make you feel like you were there with us SoCal weirdos even if you’re in Milwaukee in December.”

The singer discussed his love of the Beach Boys and how their melodies, chord progressions, harmonies, orchestration and lyrics were the vibe he intended to capture on The White Album. “I also love the dark side of the beach – Venice after dark, hearing at the Del Monte Speakeasy about how the gangsters used to drag the bodies through the catacombs and leave them under the pier,” he added.

Cuomo shared lyrics to one of the songs, although he didn’t specify the title. “I’m proud of the demented lyrics that are like, ‘What? Who says that? Who thinks that? What planet on am I on? I don’t know, but I kinda wanna stay!'” He concludes the statement by writing that after 24 years, he hopes the band continues for at least another 14 years.
