The massive demonstrations flaring up across the country this week in the wake of the Ferguson grand jury’s decision not to indict Darren Wilson for the killing of Michael Brown have a lot of people thinking back to the 1960s. It was a time when the airwaves were full of protest songs by everyone from Bob Dylan to Creedence Clearwater Revival to the Beatles. By 1971, even the Beach Boys got it on the act with “Student Demonstration Time.”
Now we have a question for you for this long weekend: What is the greatest protest song of all time? Feel free to vote for a classic like “Only a Pawn in Their Game” or “Won’t Get Fooled Again,” a more recent cut like “21 Guns” or “Fight the Power” or even a traditional tune like “Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye.” Vote for whatever song you want, but please just vote once and only for a single selection.
