Rolling Stone kicked off this week with full coverage of the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, complete with a hilarious live chat and post-show recap by Rob Sheffield. As always, the show was full of memorable moments – most notably, Beyoncé announced that she is pregnant with Jay-Z’s child, and Lady Gaga spent the entire night in character as her drag alter ego Jo Calderone. Gaga went very Method with her performance, going so far as to wear a prosthetic penis under her clothes to channel her character’s macho swagger.
We also talked to Lindsey Buckingham about his new solo album and the future of Fleetwood Mac, chatted with the Rapture‘s Luke Jenner about his band’s return from a long hiatus, learned from Iggy Pop that his Stooges bandmate nearly died last year and chatted with Rebecca Black, Lenny Kravitz and Good Charlotte about their upcoming releases.
Plus, the Spin Doctors performed a brief set at our office, we got excited about this week’s tour kickoffs, the Dum Dum Girls were named our latest Band to Watch, we analyzed this week’s pop charts, looked back on this week in rock history and, as always, we reviewed all the week’s biggest new releases.
We also posted a gallery of your Top 10 least favorite songs of the Nineties as determined by your votes on Facebook and Twitter. Our question for you on this long holiday weekend is: What was the best song of summer 2011? You can answer on our website, on facebook.com/rollingstone or on Twitter with the #weekendrock hashtag.
