Wayne and Garth Joke About the Oscars on ‘Saturday Night Live’

When the news came out that Dana Carvey was going to host Saturday Night Live people immediately began speculating about which old characters he might revive. Garth Algar? The Church Lady? Regis? Turns out he did all the biggies besides George H.W. Bush – he even did a second of Ross Perot.
The show began with a cold open of a Wayne’s World skit. When Mike Myers hosted the MTV Movie Awards in 2008 Dana Carvey stopped by for a Wayne’s World reunion, so Myers had little choice but to return the favor this weekend. The six-minute skit – in which they discussed the Academy Awards nominees – wasn’t their most inspired performance ever, but seeing the old characters again was still a lot of fun.
The reunion came right around the time that MTV confirmed that Beavis and Butt-head are returning to the airwaves. There’s also been rumblings of another outting for the original Nineties teenage stoner duo: Bill & Ted. With all this Nineties comedy making a comeback, here’s hoping that The State make good on their long-awaited movie project. We’ve waited long enough.
