Watch Usher and Nas’ Devastating ‘Chains’ Video

Usher and Nas continue to address police brutality with the latest clip for their single “Chains.” Last October, the duo debuted an interactive clip on Tidal that used facial recognition technology to pause the song every time the viewers’ eyes deviated from the screen.

In the new, standard video directed by Ben Louis Nicholas, a hoodie-wearing Usher is being followed by the police at night. As he runs from the police with hands up, clips of guns and people praying are shown. Later, Usher is in a church at his own memorial service, which he doesn’t realize until he sees the childhood pictures of himself and attempts to grab the attention of the silent mourners sitting in the pews.

The original clip for “Chains,” which features Rihanna’s “Bitch Better Have My Money” co-writer Bibi Bourelly, showed images and descriptions of police brutality victims. When the viewer was not directly staring at the video, the screen would read “Don’t look away.”
