Watch Unseen Roy Orbison Footage in ‘The Way Is Love’ Video – Premiere

New clip features footage compiled by the late singer’s sons

Tomorrow, Legacy recordings will release an expanded version of Roy Orbison’s posthumous Mystery Girl, an LP originally released in February 1989, two months after the singer’s death. Today, we’re premiering the music video that accompanies the most significant of the bonus tracks, “The Way Is Love.”

Why Rob Orbison is one of our 100 Greatest Singers

Just as the song was pieced together around a recently recovered Orbison vocal track, the music video stitches together old clips of the late rock & roll legend. Because Roy originally recorded that vocal track on a boombox cassette player, the song was reworked by a team that included producer John Carter Cash and a group Roy’s son, Alex, describes as “some scientists with a super computer.”

“We had an amazing time as brothers working on ‘The Way Is Love,'” Alex tells Rolling Stone. “We had many ups and downs with the vocal track and stayed with it until it was possible to hear it with the backing track. For my brothers and I, playing and singing back-up together was one of the crowning achievements of our lives. We think our dad would be proud that we came together to finish the song.”
