Watch Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Surreal ‘Shakedown Street’ Video
A hippie savior fends off an army of suits in the absurdly goofy video for Unknown Mortal Orchestra‘s cover of the Grateful Dead‘s “Shakedown Street.”
The medieval-tinged clip opens on a group of knights and nobility in the middle of a wild bacchanal, with neon treats being pulled out of a well. But when the tap eventually runs dry, the knights are forced to enter the modern world. While the knights boogie through London, a group of modern men thwart the party until a searing guitar solo saves the day.
The video for Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s “Shakedown Street” was directed by Business Company. The track appears on the recent Grateful Dead tribute compilation, Day of the Dead, curated by the National’s Aaron and Bryce Dessner.
As for Unknown Mortal Orchestra, the New Zealand psych-rock outfit recently released a new song of their own, the dark disco cut, “First World Problem.” The track marked their first since the arrival of their third album Multi-Love in 2015. UMO has a handful of live dates scheduled for August, including a set at Bon Iver’s Eaux Claires Festival in Eau Claire, Wisconsin August 13th.
