Watch U2 Perform ‘People Have the Power’ in Paris With Patti Smith

Singer joins band to close out their return to French capital

U2 were “thinking about some special guests” for their return to Paris less than a month after their concerts in the French capital were postponed by the terror attacks. At Sunday night’s show at AccorHotels Arena, the band were joined by Patti Smith, who performed a portion of “Gloria” and “People Have the Power” with the band. Smith’s appearance closed out an event that was the most high-profile concert since the November 13th attacks, and throughout the evening, Bono paid tribute to the victims both in Paris as well as those killed this week in San Bernardino, California.

Prior to the show, U2 denied rumors that Eagles of Death Metal, the band who performed at the Bataclan during the terror attacks, would join the band onstage. ‎”We’re back in Paris and it’s great to be here. Some people have been saying that Eagles of Death Metal will appear onstage with U2 tonight. This is not the case,” U2 said in a statement Saturday. “We have another surprise guest planned for tonight’s show.‎”

U2 will close out their Innocence + Experience Tour Monday night at the AccorHotels Arena with a concert that will be broadcast on HBO.

Smith, who also performed “People Have the Power” with U2 in London on October 29th, was in Paris to take part in the Pathway to Paris concerts. At those shows, she delivered her 1988 single alongside Thom Yorke and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ Flea.
