The Muffs returned in July with Whoop Dee Doo, their first album in a decade and the sixth LP of their 20-plus year career. Now, one of its highlights, “Weird Boy Next Door,” is getting the music video it deserves, with the band’s three members doing wholesome living room activities — board games, acoustic guitar — that get interrupted by their weirdo neighbor.
“I’ve never had more fun shooting a video than I did with ‘Weird Boy Next Door,'” says guitarist Kim Shattuck, citing bassist Ronnie Barnett’s attempt to shoot an arrow through drummer Roy McDonald’s head as one of her favorite parts. “There were multiple takes of us jumping off the stoop because I couldn’t get up without flashing my junk. Sara Radle is a great director and Erik Charles Nielsen is amazing as the weird boy. In fact, he was so good at it that I kept having to apologize to him for the mean lyrics thinking he would take them personally.”
