Watch the Killers, Santa Let Loose in ‘Dirt Sledding’ Christmas Video

Matthew Gray Gubler helmed new clip for seasonal song featuring Ryan Pardey, Richard Dreyfuss

Every year since 2005, the Killers have released a new, original Christmas song, and for the 10th installment in the series, the Las Vegas rock band cap off their unofficial “Santa Trilogy” — which also includes 2007’s “Don’t Shoot Me Santa” and 2012’s “I Feel It in My Bones” — with “Dirt Sledding.” The rockabilly-tinged track, which features a spoken-word guest spot from actor Richard Dreyfuss, is available now via iTunes.

Matthew Gray Gubler directed the desert-set clip, which stars Ryan Pardey as Santa, a role he also played in the prior two “Santa Trilogy” videos. Here, a dirt-and sand-covered Santa is surrounded by discarded stuffed animals as he digs up a puppet featuring a halo and a print-out of Killers singer Brandon Flowers’ face. As Santa passes out, the toys come to life and help get him back on his feet.

The Killers are also seen in the video as they perform by a fire and miniature horse. “Pretty girls, Christmas lights, mistletoe, holy nights/Don’t it sound like heaven on a cloud,” Flowers sings of the more adult wishes on his Christmas list.

Each year, the Killers donate the proceeds of their Christmas singles to the Global Fund to fight AIDS via (RED), an effort which has raised more than $850,000 during the past decade. Tonight, the band will perform last year’s collaboration with Jimmy Kimmel, “Joel the Lump of Coal,” with the late-night host on Jimmy Kimmel Live.
