Watch Teyana Taylor With Guns, Gold Paint in ‘Champions’ Freestyle
Teyana Taylor unleashes a casually vicious freestyle over Kanye West’s “Champions” the follow-up video to the one that put her on the map: for Kanye West’s “Fade,” unveiled at MTV’s 2016 Video Music Awards. The stop-motion clip finds Taylor dripping in strategically-smeared gold paint and dancing militaristically in front of a gray backdrop. She appears to be some kind of Amazonian guerrilla, donning a gigantic gold chain and a Pussy Riot-esque black balaclava while wielding two golden AK-47s.
After joining Travis Scott on the hook for the first Cruel Winter single, Taylor opens up her freestyle with a menacing patois, spitting, “First lady go cray for ’em/ So I loaded up the AK for ’em.” Later she boasts in a throaty sing-song wail, “Anna Wintour need a chair to see how they stare with the bangs and hair for me/ It’s like they ain’t care for me.”
While Taylor’s “Champion” freestyle notably follows her appearance in “Fade,” it also arrives on the heels of her own song, “Freak On,” which was released in June and features Chris Brown and production from DJ Mustard. Taylor released her debut album, VII, in 2014 via West’s G.O.O.D. Music, while last year she self-released an EP, The Cassette Tape 1994.
