Watch Tegan and Sara Perform Flirty ‘Stop Desire’ on ‘Colbert’
Tegan and Sara performed their vibrant single “Stop Desire” Tuesday on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. The Quin sisters harmonized over synths, swiveling onstage to lyrics about flirting and hooking up. “Getting tired of making all this racket/ Waiting on you to get your ass in gear.”
“Stop Desire” is the duo’s second official single from their eighth LP, Love You to Death. The group recently released a playful clip for the song, filled with sexual innuendo and featuring a cameo from Late Late Show bandleader Reggie Watts.
Tegan and Sara plan to unveil a video for every track on the new album. So far, they’ve also released clips for “White Knuckles,” “Faint of Heart,” “BWU,” “100x” and lead single “Boyfriend.”
The duo told Rolling Stone they’ve gone “full pop mode” with the Greg Kurstin-produced Love You to Death, which follows a similar sonic path to 2013’s Heartthrob.
“We went pop because I wanted to make music that sounded different from what we were doing, and Tegan wanted to be more successful,” Sara said. “I respect albums you have to listen to 10 times to get into it, but that’s not our band. Tegan and I walk into every room like the only way we’ll survive is if we talk and charm everyone. We’re not slow-burn people. I am a politician; I go around the room and talk to everybody. I think our songs do the same thing.”
