Watch Taylor Swift, Jack Antonoff Dramatically Open 2016 Grammy Awards

Taylor Swift opened the Grammys with a dramatic rendition of her 1989 hit “Out of the Woods.” Swift and her 2014 album 1989 are up for seven awards at this year’s ceremony, including Album of the Year.

The song’s co-writer Jack Antonoff joined Swift onstage as her guitarist. The singer performed the synth-heavy single in front of a dark forest background, much like the track’s video, and traveled towards the center of the audience as she wrapped her time onstage.

Prior to tonight, Swift has won seven Grammy awards in her career, including Album of the Year in 2010 for Fearless. She was nominated for Best New Artist in 2008, but lost to Amy Winehouse. Before the 2016 show began, Swift won awards for Best Pop Vocal Album as well as Best Music Video alongside Kendrick Lamar for “Bad Blood.”

Following the release of 1989, Swift spent 2015 on her massive, guest-filled world tour. She captured her show at Sydney, Australia’s ANZ Stadium for a concert film that premiered exclusively on Apple Music and was directed by music video vet Jonas Akerlund.

Last September, Ryan Adams covered 1989 in its entirety, stripping the largely synth-pop tunes to its minimalist essentials. “I was listening to that record and thinking, ‘I hear more,'” he told Rolling Stone around the time of the album’s release. “Not that there was anything missing. I would think about the sentiments in the songs and the configurations.”
