Watch Strokes’ Albert Hammond Jr. Talk David Bowie’s Influence

Guitarist also recalls meeting late icon backstage in NYC

Since David Bowie‘s passing on Sunday, tributes have been pouring in from artists across the musical spectrum. This week, Strokes guitarist Albert Hammond Jr. took some time to share his thoughts about the late master. Watch the exclusive video interview above.

Hammond recalls his elation when Bowie visited the band backstage at a show at NYC’s Roseland. He also reflects on the enormity of Bowie’s influence. “You live with these people as you’re living,” Hammond says, “and so you kind of almost feel like they’re just gonna keep on going.”

Hammond is confident that Bowie’s effect on music and culture will only intensify. “When someone’s really good at encapsulating human emotion and putting it out in a form that can reach a variety of people, that’s going to have a big effect when he’s no longer there,” he says.

Hammond plays select solo dates throughout the winter and spring, including an appearance at Governors Ball in June, where he’ll also perform with the Strokes.
