Watch St. Vincent Debut New Song Wearing Toilet Costume
St. Vincent debuted an intimate ballad Tuesday night during her first show of 2016, a concert at New York’s Le Poisson Rouge benefiting her drummer Matt Johnson’s son, Jasper, who is recovering after suffering a seizure in February. As Pitchfork reports, singer-guitarist Annie Clark performed the full set wearing – for reasons that remain unclear – a purple toilet costume.
Fan footage shows the art rocker crooning the new track over clanging piano chords. The set also featured tracks from throughout the St. Vincent catalog, including 2007’s “Marry Me” and 2014’s “Bring Me Your Loves.” (Major props for being able to crank out a guitar solo with the fretboard perilously close to a toilet bowl.)
The benefit show also included performances from Father John Misty, Rufus Wainwright, Elysian Fields, Joan As Police Woman and Nina Persson.
St. Vincent will perform at director David Lynch’s first-ever Festival of Disruption, set for October 8th and 9th at Los Angeles’ Ace Hotel and Theater. The eclectic line-up also features Robert Plant & the Sensational Space Shifters, Angelo Badalamenti (performing Twin Peaks music), Xiu Xiu, Sky Ferreira, Jon Hopkins and Questlove.
Clark will make her directorial debut with a segment in upcoming horror anthology XX, comprised of four short films starring and helmed entirely by women.
