Watch Slash Cover Jimi Hendrix at Whitford/St. Holmes Surprise Spot

Guns N’ Roses guitarist joins reunited duo in Nashville for cover of Jimi Hendrix’s “Red House”

Slash is spending his summer playing football stadiums on Guns N’ Roses’ shockingly smooth reunion tour, but last night he stopped by Nashville’s 500-seat Exit In to join Whitford/St. Holmes for a long, jammed-out cover of Jimi Hendrix’s 1967 classic “Red House.” Whitford/St. Holmes – featuring Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford and Ted Nugent vocalist Derek St. Holmes – are on a reunion tour as well, having recorded a sole album in 1981 after Whitford left Aerosmith and reformed last year to record their new LP Reunion.

Slash has maintained a near-total state of media silence since reuniting with Guns N’ Roses, though he did recently phone up the Boston radio show of Aerosmith drummer Joey Kramer for a brief chat. “Everybody’s getting along, everybody’s playing great,” he said. “We were all pretty positive that that would never happen so it’s still sort of blowing our minds. It seems so surreal to me, but everybody’s really getting along great and I think everybody’s come a long way and it’s all cool.”

The evening before Slash’s performance with Whitford/St. Holmes, Guns N’ Roses played with former drummer Steven Adler for the first time since he left the group in 1990.

And while Guns N’ Roses are kicking off a new chapter of their career this summer, Aerosmith are giving clear signals they might close the book on their band in 2017. “We’re doing a farewell tour,” he told Howard Stern last month, “but only because it’s time. We’ve never done that.”

Joe Perry told Rolling Stone that nothing is definite. “It will probably be called the final tour, but I play every night like it’s the last show anyway,” he said. “Calling it that will definitely give a different flavor to this. … And who knows what’s in the stars.”
