Schoolboy Q‘s crew smokes weed, jokes around and cruises through the streets of Los Angeles in the rapper’s sprawling video for “By Any Means,” a track from his upcoming Blank Face LP. The clip finds Schoolboy’s friends running red lights, outrunning police and scoping out jewelry at a pawn shop.
Schoolboy alternates between nimble verses and crooning on the track, anchored by brooding synths and snapping programmed drums. “I’ma rob that store/ I’ma kick down doors/ I’ma shoot my gun/ I’ma heal my soul,” he raps on the cut, as the clip foreshadows a potential robbery plot. The clip, dubbed “Part 1,” ends with an ominous “to be continued” cliffhanger, as a car pulls up next to the pawn shop at night.
“By Any Means” follows Schoolboy singles “THat Part” featuring Kanye West – which he also promoted with a surreal video – and “Groovy Tony.” Blank Face, which follows 2014’s Oxymoron, is out July 8th via Top Dawg Entertainment.
