Watch Rising Guitar Star Marcus Machado Jam on Fiery New Single
Marcus Machado shows off his incendiary fusion of funk, blues and psychedelic hard rock in this new in-studio video. Last December, Machado took first place in Rolling Stone and D’Addario’s Next Young Gun Contest — a genre-spanning competition showcasing the world’s best up-and-coming guitarists — and here, he reflects on the significance of the honor. “In order to be the best, you have to surround yourself [with] the best,” says the 31-year-old six-stringer. “D’Addario and Rolling Stone, that is the biggest names in the world for musicians and guitarists, and for me to even be a part of it is beyond a great feeling.”
Machado’s Next Young Gun win earned him a recording session at L.A.’s Swing House Studios, and the results can be heard on his new single, “Rockout.” The above video takes us inside the session and finds the Brooklyn-born Machado performing the song in the heavy company of bassist Jerry Watts (Andy Summers, Dave Stewart) and drummer Jonathan Mover (Joe Satriani), with production from Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Stone Sour). Brian Lucey (Black Keys, Arctic Monkeys) mastered “Rockout” at Magic Garden Mastering. The track arrives in advance of Machado’s new EP, 29, out November 20th on Purpose Music Group. The guitarist will celebrate with a release party that same night at New York’s Subrosa.
