Watch Regina Spektor Croon Beatles’ ‘While My Guitar Gently Weeps’
Regina Spektor sings a haunting rendition of the Beatles’ “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” in a new music video promoting 3D stop-motion film Kubo and the Two Strings. The clip blends footage of Spektor in the recording booth with dazzling shots from the Laika and Focus Features movie, which opens in theaters August 19th.
Spektor’s version of the George Harrison anthem, arranged by Dario Marianelli, finds her singing over a web of string instruments. The track climaxes with a solo performed on the shamisen, a three-stringed Japanese lute, and ends with a quiet piano coda. The track is featured on the Kubo and the Two Strings Soundtrack, available now.
Kubo and the Two Strings, directed by Travis Knight, features voice acting from Matthew McConaughey, Charlize Theron, Ralph Fiennes and George Takei, among others. The film – one of Rolling Stone‘s 50 Most Anticipated Movies of 2016 –follows a young Japanese boy battling monsters and angry gods in a quest to find his father’s magic suit of armor.
