Watch Radiohead’s Sparse, Stirring ‘Present Tense’ Video

Paul Thomas Anderson-directed clip features Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood with just guitars and drum machine

Radiohead‘s Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood deliver a stripped-down rendition of “Present Tense” in a new video directed by Paul Thomas Anderson.

The simple clip finds the pair in campfire sing-along mode, performing the song in a nearly dark room lit up by just a dim orange glow. With the only percussion coming from a Roland CR-78, Greenwood and Yorke create an intricate tangle of guitar lines that move gracefully beneath Yorke’s vocals.

The new “Present Tense” clip marks Radiohead’s second video with Anderson, who also helmed the band’s last visual for “Daydreaming,” which arrived days before their most recent album, A Moon Shaped Pool. Radiohead also announced the album with a sinister stop-motion clip for “Burn the Witch,” which was directed by Chris Hopewell of Jackknife.

After spending much of the summer on the road in support of A Moon Shaped Pool, Radiohead have only a handful of live dates left this year. Their only U.S. concert is a headlining slot at the two-week Austin City Limits Festival, September 30th and October 7th, while in between they’ll perform in Mexico City.
