Watch Pixies’ Devilish Stop-Motion ‘Classic Masher’ Video
Pixies have unveiled their new stop-motion video for “Classic Masher,” directed by the group’s bassist Paz Lenchantin.
The simple clip for the Head Carrier cut features three women singing along to the track in a car while a devilish pianist – played by Lenchantin’s father Mario Merdirossian – bashes away at his instrument.
“Mephistopheles, the mocking and sarcastic devil behind every classic masher … Besides that, who doesn’t like a talking piano,” Lenchantin, who directed short films and videos prior to joining Pixies, said of the video in a statement.
The Pixies curtailed their promotional cycle for Head Carrier in September when guitarist Joey Santiago entered a rehabilitation facility to deal with drug and alcohol issues, forcing the group to cancel appearances tied to the album.
However, Santiago’s approximately 30-day stay officially ended in late October as Pixies performed four southern California warm-up shows before embarking on a European tour that stretches across November and December.
