Watch Parliament-Funkadelic Shine ‘Flash Light’ on ‘Late Show’

Funk legends joined by Bootsy Collins and Bernie Worrell ahead of keyboardist’s New York “funkraiser” Monday

George Clinton and the Parliament-Funkadelic, along with former key members Bootsy Collins and keyboardist Bernie Worrell, dropped by the Late Show With Stephen Colbert Monday to perform the funk group’s 1978 hit “Flash Light” ahead of an all-star New York “funkraiser” for Worrell that night. Jon Batiste and the Late Show also sat in on the performance of the party-starting classic.

In January, Worrell revealed that he’s battling a “mild form” of prostate cancer and stage-four liver cancer. To help Worrell with his medical bills, friends and admirers of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee – including Talking Heads bandmate Jerry Harrison, Questlove, Living Colour, the B-52’s’ Fred Schneider, Meryl Streep and many more – planned the “All the WOO in the World: An All-Star Celebration of Bernie Worrell” at New York’s Webster Hall Monday night.

“This year has been tough — we’ve lost so many great musicians,” Living Colour guitarist Vernon Reid told Rolling Stone. “Bernie is facing a serious situation, but he’s determined to make art, to play it out. This will be a great opportunity to recognize and celebrate a person while they’re still here with us.” Worrell traveled from Bellingham, Washington – a longtime New Jersey resident, the keyboardist moved to Washington because it was easier to obtain marijuana-based medications – to New York for the benefit and the Colbert performance.

Thanks to fan contributions to crowdfunding platform IndieGogo, Worrell was able to finish work on his new album Introspectives. As Colbert reminded viewers following the funktastic performance, they can visit Sweet Relief to help donate to Worrell and other musicians in need of financial assistance in the face of mounting medical bills.
