Watch One Direction Cover Kanye West, Natalie Imbruglia
One Direction paid their first visit to BBC Radio 1’s Live Lounge, playing a six-song set that included covers of Kanye West and Natalie Imbruglia.
During their session, the quartet previewed live versions of songs off their fifth album Made in the A.M. Between vocally strong performances of “Drag Me Down,” “Perfect” and “Infinity,” the boy band also performed “Story of My Life,” off their 2013 album Midnight Memories which marked a shift towards a more rock and folk sound.
The biggest surprises in the nearly half hour-long set were two covers performed by the band. Around the 12:30 mark, they debuted their perfectly harmonized version of “FourFiveSeconds,” the collaborative single by Kanye West, Rihanna and Paul McCartney that was released earlier this year.
At the end of their set at 20:50 in, the pop group reprised their cover of Natalie Imbruglia’s “Torn,” which they had covered while competing on The X Factor. “That was amazing,” Liam Payne said as soon as the band wrapped the song.
Made in the A.M. is set for release on Friday.
