OK Go have shared their gravity-defying new video "Upside Down & Inside Out," shot in an airplane over Russia

Since the arrival of “Here It Goes Again” more than a decade ago, OK Go have continually pushed the limits of what’s possible to do in a three-minute music video. For their latest clip, the band again reaches new heights, literally: “Upside Down & Inside Out” was filmed aboard an airplane traveling at zero gravity over Russia.

OK Go singer Damian Kulash, Jr. co-directed the video with his frequent collaborator Trish Sie. “Upside Down & Inside Out” was created in collaboration with Russia’s S7 Airlines and required the band to submit to three weeks of training at ROSCOSMOS, the Russian equivalent of NASA.

“What you are about to see is real,” the video’s disclaimer warns. “We shot this in zero gravity, in an actual plane, in the sky. There are no wires or green screen.” What follows is a remarkably orchestrated sky ballet where OK Go and a pair of real-life S7 airhostesses, both trained aerialist acrobats, float, flip and spin around in zero-G.

“It was nearly a decade ago that the world started buzzing about commercial space travel and exploration. When I heard about Virgin Galactic and Space X, it dawned on me that soon enough, people will be making art in space,” Kulash, Jr. said in a statement. “So for years, we’ve been looking for the opportunity to make a weightless video. I mean, what could be more thrilling than astronaut training? I met with people from S7 at a media event at the Cannes Lions festival in France and that’s where the adventure began.”

“Upside Down & Inside Out” features on OK Go’s latest album Hungry Ghosts.
