Watch Norah Jones’ Breathtaking ‘Tragedy’ Video

Musician’s aching barroom blues soundtracks roller skater’s lonesome trip

A waitress skates the blues away in the gorgeous new lyric video for Norah Jones‘ “Tragedy.” The simple clip features the lone roller-skater weaving around an empty, neon-lit rink while Jones sings about a man who gives up his life for alcohol.

Despite the song’s heavy subject matter, Jones imbues her voice and piano a jaunty barroom lilt. The skater’s graceful movements — and even her sudden fall towards the end of the clip — give “Tragedy” an additional touch of poignant beauty.

“Tragedy” appears on Jones’ latest album, Day Breaks, which follows 2012’s Little Broken Hearts. The 12-track LP features nine new songs, as well as covers of Neil Young (“Don’t Be Denied”), Horace Silver and Duke Ellington. Saxophone legend Wayne Shorter, organist Lonnie Smith and drummer Brian Blade also guest on the LP.

Jones resumes her North American tour tonight, October 18th in Vancouver. Following a trip to Europe, she’ll embark on another U.S. leg November 28th at Ulster PAC in Kingston, New York.
