Watch Niall Horan Go Solo With New Folk Single ‘This Town’
One Direction‘s Niall Horan surprised fans with a debut solo song “This Town.” The boy band has been on hiatus since releasing their fifth album Made in the A.M. last fall.
The acoustic song reflects on the things Horan never got to say to a lost lover. It’s accompanied by a stripped down, black-and-white video of the Irish singer performing with “one mic” and “one take.” Sia collaborator Greg Kurstin produced the song, which was co-written by Horan, Jamie Scott, Mike Needle and Daniel Bryer. The song’s gentleness is reminiscent of many of One Direction’s ballads like the Ed Sheeran-penned “Little Things.”
“This Town” comes with the announcement that Horan has signed a solo deal with Capitol Records. “Thank you to all the One Direction fans for your love and support as always,” Horan said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to the next part of this journey together.”
One Direction’s Liam Payne also inked solo deal with Capitol Records in July. Harry Styles signed with Columbia, while former member Zayn Malik has been on RCA since departing the band in early 2015. Louis Tomlinson remains the final member of the group without a solo recording deal since the band went on a break.
