Watch Miguel’s Intimate Cover of David Bowie’s ‘Space Oddity’

R&B singer revealed that he wishes he had written rock star’s classic song

Miguel paid tribute to the late David Bowie Monday night with a sparse, intimate cover of the singer’s classic track “Space Oddity,” Noisey reports. The singer transitioned his cover, performed for a 300-person crowd at Los Angeles club Bardot, into his single “Waves” off last year’s Wildheart.

Miguel kept his take on “Space Oddity” simple, performing a few minutes of the track with the assistance of just an acoustic guitar. After the guitar hit its mid-song break, he transitioned into an acoustic performance of his own single.

In an October interview with NME, Miguel stated that “Space Oddity” is the one song he wishes he had written. “That song is just forever going to be classic,” he said. “At the time … we were just going to the moon. It’s just insane, the timing of it.”

Miguel released Wildheart last summer and has since made appearances on tracks by A$AP Rocky and Mac Miller. In June, he’ll play Bonnaroo alongside Pearl Jam, LCD Soundsystem, J. Cole, Halsey and more.
