Watch Major Lazer’s Diner-Ruining ‘Powerful’ Video With Ellie Goulding
Major Lazer have unveiled their new music for “Powerful,” featuring Ellie Goulding and reggae singer Tarrus Riley. The James Slater-directed video is the latest off the dance powerhouse’s LP Peace Is the Mission. “This is one of the songs I’m most proud of writing with such awesome people,” Diplo tweeted after the video premiered.
“Powerful” revolves around the chorus, “There’s an energy / When you hold me / When you touch me / It’s so powerful,” and the video reveals that energy is telekinesis. Goulding and Riley first use their joint superpower for innocuous purposes like making coffee cups spin and bending spoons inside a drowsy diner. Eventually though, the duo cause major chaos in the restaurant by disrupting everyone’s meals, swirling plates and making a waitress levitate. Major Lazer themselves only appear in a fleeting cameo appearance on the diner’s television set.
In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Major Lazer’s Diplo, who’s also working on his Jack Ü project with Skrillex, talked about the changing landscape of EDM. “It’s been a slow evolution in America — you still have the biggest, glossiest, most masculine music at EDM raves. But it’s got young people excited about music,” Diplo said. “Jack Ü is headlining festivals now, and Skrillex and I are up there playing random records, doing what I love, being unpredictable, being trendsetting.”
Jack Ü recently released the music video for “Where Are Ü Now” featuring Justin Bieber.
