Watch Local Natives Play ‘Wide Eyes’ at Sundance’s Coziest Venue

Last weekend, Rolling Stone and Merrell brought live music to the Sundance Film Festival, booking L.A. rock crew Local Natives to play an intimate show at subterranean Park City club the Downstairs. Above, watch the band play “Wide Eyes,” track one from 2009’s Gorilla Manor, in a clip from the gig, where three of the band’s six members harmonize on the song’s hook and almost everyone comes in to contribute percussion during the breakdown.

Earlier in the day, Peter Travers conducted a serious of interviews in the same space, discussing this year’s new movies with stars including Sarah Silverman and Jack Black. “I read the script and it made me laugh very hard,” the Tenacious D singer said of The D Train. “It was taking some risks that I hadn’t seen before. It was pushing the boundaries of what it means to be a man – can we say that?”

Black also treated our cameras to an impromptu performance of his own, singing a few lines from Elton John’s “Take Me to the Pilot.” This ended when Black couldn’t come up with the right words. “I don’t know what the lyrics are,” he told Travers. “It’s, like, the best song.”
