Watch Keith Richards’ Stylistic, Moody ‘Love Overdue’ Video

Rolling Stones guitarist unveils animated clip for Gregory Isaacs cover

Keith Richards has unveiled the stylistic, moody video for his latest Crosseyed Heart single “Love Overdue,” the Rolling Stones guitarist’s laid-back cover of reggae singer Gregory Isaacs’ “Love Is Overdue.” In the noir-ish, art deco-inspired animated clip, a despondent silhouette literally kicks the can under street lights while commiserating about the love that left him.

The viewer then follows the hatted hero on his adventures through a lonely city in the late-night hours. The protagonist eventually jumps off his top-floor balcony as a result of his sadness, but that turns out to be a dream sequence. Instead, he winds up back at his local watering hole and, finally, back under those same street lights, where the silhouette is illuminated and revealed to be Richards himself.

In September, Richards spoke to Rolling Stone about why he decided to record Crosseyed Heart, his first solo LP in 23 years. “Some of that you can’t always express with the Stones, you know what I mean?” says Richards. “It’s another outlet. I mean, I hadn’t realized it’s been 20-odd years since I’ve done this. Time flies!”
