Watch Kacey Musgraves Perform ‘Step Off’ and Cover Bob Marley
Kacey Musgraves’ momentum keeps thriving this weekend, as the breakout country star’s season-ending performance on Austin City Limits hits PBS Saturday night. The seven-song set features tunes from her acclaimed debut Same Trailer Different Park, including “Follow Your Arrow,” “Keep It to Yourself” and “Merry Go ‘Round.” One song that was taped, but didn’t make the final broadcast, is this version of “Step Off.” It’s a tune that calls out hypocrites, warning them to, well, “step off” – but unlike the studio version, she throws in a nice surpise at the end. At the one-minute mark, her backing band drifts into a reggae arrangement that eventually segues into Bob Marley’s classic “Three Little Birds.” It’s fun and spunky and demonstrates yet another reason why she’s so captivating.

Musgraves has been on a critical hot-streak. She took home Grammy Awards for Best Country Song for “Merry Go ‘Round” and Best Country Album for Trailer Park, as well as the CMA Award for New Artist of the Year. She’s also received a bevy of award nominations for co-writing Miranda Lambert’s hit single “Mama’s Broken Heart.” Musgraves is also up for multiple Academy of Country Music Awards, including Female Vocalist of the Year and Album of the Year, which will take place on April 6th in Las Vegas.
This year, she’s spending time playing arenas, first as support for Lady Antebellum followed by a tour with Katy Perry this summer.
