Watch James Van Der Beek Impersonate Diplo in Mad Decent Video
Diplo recruited his celebrity lookalike, James Van Der Beek, to take fans on an amusing look into a day in the life of the EDM star. The Dawson’s Creek actor portrays a caricaturized version of Diplo in the clip, which was created to promote the upcoming Mad Decent Block Party.
As the video reveals, a day in the life of the Jack U producer includes a harpist hired to serve as Diplo’s alarm clock, studio engineers forced to dress up like elves, a social media manager to commandeer the prolific tweeting, rooftop horseback rides and copious use of the word “fam.” Van Der Beek’s Diplo even doles out some advice for Mad Decent fans.
“Another thing that people ask me all the time is ‘Diplo, how do you deal with haters?’ Simple,” “Diplo” says while inexplicably fighting a gang of ninjas. “See, haters only hate because you got what they wish they have. It’s like what I always say, “Ain’t no compliment greater than a hater.'”
The Mad Decent Block Party kicks off July 30th in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Kesha, Tiësto, Baauer, AlunaGeorge, DJ Snake, D.R.A.M., Kaskade, Boi-1da, Dillon Francis, Flosstradamus, RL Grime, Zeds Dead and more will take part in this year’s traveling festival, with lineups varying at each stop.
