Watch James Blake Perform New Songs at Soulful L.A. Show
James Blake performed several songs from his new record The Colour in Anything, including the title-track, “Radio Silence,” “Modern Soul” and “Timeless,” live for the first time at the Belasco Theater in Los Angeles Monday.
Blake tapped rising soul-folk singer Moses Sumney and New Zealand psych-pop musician Connan Mockasin to assist on “The Colour in Anything,” providing chilling backing vocals. Sumney also joined Blake for an aching rendition of “Modern Soul.”
Blake’s show at the Belasco was his first of three May dates celebrating the release of The Colour in Anything. He’s scheduled to play New York’s Webster Hall Wednesday, May 18th and then London’s Village Underground on May 23rd.
Blake surprise-released The Colour in Anything on May 5th, marking his first LP since 2013’s Overgrown. The record boasts collaborations with Bon Iver and Frank Ocean, who is also credited with co-writing the album. It was co-produced by Rick Rubin.
