Watch Jadakiss Talk Hometown Juice Bar, Balancing Rapping With Parenting

“You use this rap game as a stepping stone to do other things,” says Yonkers MC

Veteran rapper Jadakiss welcomes Rolling Stone into the Yonkers location of Juices for Life, one of three juice bars he co-owns with fellow MC Styles P, in the latest installment of our original video series “Off the Clock.” He sees himself as following in the footsteps of fellow MCs-turned-entrepreneurs such as Jay Z, while at the same time giving back to the community he calls home. “Our whole life has been nothing but fast-food chains and pizza shops and liquor stores,” he told RS. “Liquor and clothing and all that, that was the move at that time — now everybody’s on a health kick.”

Jadakiss is keeping busy on the musical front as well. Last week, he dropped his fourth album, Top 5 Dead or Alive, which features guest appearances from Future, Lil Wayne, Puff Daddy, Nas and others, including Styles P. During our interview, he proudly sported a “#T5DOA” cap and showed off the Jadakiss bust that adorns the album cover.

As the video demonstrates, his concerns these days also extend into parenthood. “I’m a father before an artist,” he says. “I just try to stay grounded.”
