Watch Green Day’s Explosive ‘Bang Bang’ Performance at AMAs

Band gets political with anti-Trump-themed cover of MDC’s “Born to Die” mid-song

Green Day stopped by the American Music Awards to perform their hit song “Bang Bang.” The track appears as the lead single off the band’s recently released Revolution Radio.

In front of rapidly changing visuals of graffiti, Green Day powered through their stirring, raucous new single. In the middle of the song, the band broke into “Born to Die” by Austin punk group MDC. The song has become a recent popular chant for students protesting Donald Trump’s presidency, changing the final lines to “No Trump/No KKK/No fascist USA.”

Revolution Radio is the pop-punk trio’s first release in four years. They recently announced a massive 2017 North American tour in support of the LP, which kicks off on March 1st in Arizona with Against Me! as the opening act. Last month, Billie Joe Armstrong appeared in his first leading role as a former punk rocker-turned-dad in the film Ordinary World, which was released on DVD and as a digital download on October 17th. Armstrong’s sons have also launched music careers, with eldest son Joey drumming for the grunge-pop band SWMRS while the teenage Jakob Danger has launched his own pop-punk project under his own name.
