Watch Gaslamp Killer Experience’s Trippy ‘Ritual’ Video

Video combines live footage with surreal imagery filmed in desert outside Coachella Festival

Los Angeles DJ/producer extraordinaire the Gaslamp Killer has dropped his trippy new music video for the hypnotic cut “Ritual.” The video combines live video shot at the Gaslamp Killer Experience’s November 2013 concert at Los Angeles’ Mayan Theatre with beautiful, swirling footage of mysterious, masked wanderers in the desert surrounding Coachella following his “bizarre” 2015 performance at the festival.

That November 7th, 2013 performance features on the DJ’s live LP The Gaslamp Killer Experience: Live in Los Angeles, which was released in April. The concert came just months after the Gaslamp Killer had a major accident on his scooter that resulted in massive internal bleeding and a ruptured spleen. Although his friends, family and doctors advised against it, the Mayan Theatre took place as scheduled with the Gaslamp Killer backed by a 15-piece band that included saxophonist Kamasi Washington.

“My friends and family begged me not to go through with this performance due to the fact that it was only four months after my near-death scooter accident,” the producer told Rolling Stone in April. “I insisted that I could handle it and after an insane amount of help from the people closest to me – and with only three rehearsals – we got up onstage in front of a sold out crowd of 2,000 people and performed my original compositions live with a 14-piece crew of some of my favorite Angeleno musicians for the first time.”

The “Ritual” video arrives on the heels of the Gaslamp Killer Experience’s final concert of 2015 on October 2nd at Los Angeles’ Regent. “Big news coming in 2016 from my Experience crew & some solo shit on the way too,” the producer promised on Twitter.
