Watch Florence Welch Navigate Creepy Motel in ‘Delilah’ Video

Sixth installment of brooding video series “The Odyssey” features singer writhing, encountering goblin in Florence and the Machine clip

Florence Welch navigates a series of nightmarish motel rooms in the video for “Delilah,” a stomping rock standout from her latest LP, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. The clip – directed by Vincent Haycock and choreographed by Holly Blakey – is the sixth installment of Welch’s melodramatic “The Odyssey” series, following “What Kind of Man,” “St. Jude,” “Ship to Wreck” and the dual-short for “Queen of Peace” and “Long & Lost.”

The video opens with an intense monologue from an old man, who urges, “Love yourself. Forgive yourself. You can’t love and forgive other people if you don’t first of all love and forgive yourself.” Welch then winds through the maze of motel rooms – dancing, writhing intensely, cutting a man’s hair and encountering a horrifying goblin. “I’m gonna be free, and I’m gonna be fine,” she sings on the chorus. “But maybe not tonight.”

Earlier this month, How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful was shortlisted for the prestigious Mercury Prize, which honors the year’s best LP from a U.K. artist. The ceremony will take place November 20th in London.
