Watch Florence Welch Battle Herself in ‘Ship to Wreck’ Video

Before Florence and the Machine took the stage Sunday at Coachella, the band made their presence felt when they debuted their new music video for “Ship to Wreck” on the big screens at the Indio, California festival. The well-choreographed video, the latest off Florence Welch and company’s forthcoming LP How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, finds the singer parading around her cramped apartment while her slightly blonder alter ego wreaks havoc on her relationships.

“I was thinking about my own self-destructive side, and how you can make something only to tear it down,” Welch said in a statement of “Ship to Wreck.” “When you’re in that whirlwind, you often end up breaking the thing you love the most.” That sentiment is apparent in the single’s Vincent Haycock-directed music video where Welch is constantly conspiring against herself, continuing the singer’s themes of duality previously featured in the music video for the album’s title track. 

Haycock also helmed Florence and the Machine’s previous How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful videos, while Ryan Heffington, who previously worked on Sia’s “Chandelier” clip, conceived the “Ship to Wreck” video’s stunning choreography.

Florence and the Machine’s How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful, which is reportedly the object of the relaunched Apple streaming service’s desire, will arrive June 2nd. “Ship to Wreck” is the fourth single to arrive from the much anticipated LP, the band’s first album since their 2011 breakthrough Ceremonials, following “St. Jude,” “What Kind of Man” and the title track.

Following their performance at the second Coachella weekend, the London rockers have mapped out a summer full of festival dates, including stops at Bonnaroo, Governors Ball and Lollapalooza.
