Watch Flaming Lips, Miley Cyrus Get Pelted With Bras Onstage
Miley Cyrus and some Flaming Lips members got the Tom Jones treatment when women pelted them with undergarments, during a recent rendition of “Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots (Part 1)” at the Tulsa stop of Cyrus’ Bangerz tour.
The Lips’ Wayne Coyne and Steven Drozd reportedly came to the show – a few days before Coyne posted Instagrams of Cyrus rolling joints in the studio, where they were recording the Beatles‘ “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” with MGMT member Andrew VanWyngarden for a rumored full-on Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band tribute record – and were inundated with brassieres, because, well, just because. Perhaps drunk on underwear, the trio performed the song twice, and Coyne held up a “FUCK YEAH TULSA” sign.

“Forgive me if I fuck it up,” Coyne said before the performance. “I’m scared!”
“You’re scared?” Cyrus said. “No, this is your fucking town. . . This song right here, it’s called ‘Fuck Yeah Tulsa,’ a.k.a. ‘Yoshimi.'”
Last week’s performance was not the first time the Cyrus, Coyne and Drozd locked Lips; last month, Coyne and Drozd joined her at the L.A. date of the Bangerz tour where they did the exact same thing – sans underwire – right down to performing the song twice.
According to The Future Heart, which spotted the Tulsa duet, the Lips’ Sgt. Pepper will also reportedly feature appearances by Tame Impala, Foxygen, Phantogram, Birdflower and Zorch. Of Cyrus’ performance, Coyne wrote, “If you’re a Beatles and John Lennon freak, you gonna love love love this track!!”
In other Lips news, the Oklahoma indie rockers are putting out two Record Store Day releases this year, including an hour-long single titled “7 Skies H3” and a split-single 7-inch with Devo. The latter features both Devo’s and the Lips’ version of the former’s 1980 track “Gates of Steel.”
