Watch Father John Misty’s Steamy Cover of Rihanna’s ‘Kiss It Better’
Father John Misty delivered a sultry cover of Rihanna’s “Kiss It Better” at the first show of his latest tour behind 2015’s I Love You, Honeybear, Pitchfork notes.
The Anti ballad is a fitting choice for Father John Misty — the nom de plume of Josh Tillman — who harbors his own penchant for hyper-sensual tunes befitting the bedroom (or in some cases, a cemetery). A fan-shot video from his show at the Observatory in Santa Ana, California Wednesday found him going all out on “Kiss It Better,” delivering a faithful, rousing rendition of the track while grinding and dancing around the stage.
With Father John Misty’s cover of “Kiss It Better,” Rihanna’s Anti is proving to be a unique bridge between mainstream pop and top-tier indie. Anti notably boasted a cover of “New Person, Same Old Mistakes” — renamed “Same Ol’ Mistakes” — by Australian psych rockers Tame Impala.
Coincidentally, Rihanna’s video for “Kiss It Better” is also set to arrive today, March 31st.
