Watch Explosive New Video From Swedish House Mafia’s Steve Angello

Epic, slow-motion “Children of the Wild” clip features boy darting through chaos and destruction

A boy sprints through a milieu of chaos and violence in the epic new video for Steve Angello‘s “Children of the Wild,” a track off the former Swedish House Mafia member’s debut solo LP, Wild Youth, out November 20th.

Directed by Guillaume Panariello, the video stitches together several scenes, each under a second long but filmed at 1,000 frames per second, so that they play out in hyper-detailed slow motion. No effects were added in post-production either, increasing the visceral nature of the vignettes.

Built around a sparse, harrowing verse and a bombastic, hopeful build — complete, of course, with vocals from a children’s choir — Angello’s “Children of the Wild” makes for an apt soundtrack. The boy darts past salvation seekers and through a storm of bullets and dollar bills, eventually sliding across the hood of a burnt-out car as sparks fly around him and the song hits its final apex. As “Children of the Wild” fades away, the boy keeps running, but finds himself joined by others like him.

“The beauty of a project like this coming together is seeing music becoming art!” Angello raved to Rolling Stone. “Seeing this particular visual painting come to life has been a highlight of my career; its depth and emotions run high, while it’s the most realistic expression of today’s life for many out there. I hope you’ll appreciate this as much as I do!”

Wild Youth marks Angello’s first solo album since Swedish House Mafia disbanded after a final tour in 2013. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Angello resisted classifying his new record as EDM. “I felt like at some point in my career I had to get into that, the stuff that I am really passionate about, without watching my steps too carefully,” he said of Wild Youth. “I want to do that ‘real artist’ album that in 10 years I can look back on and say, ‘That was a great moment in my life.'”
