Watch Elton John Surprise London Crowd With Hits-Filled Piano Medley
Elton John surprised commuters at London railway station St. Pancras International on Thursday, performing a piano medley of his greatest hits – including snippets of instantly recognizable classics like “Tiny Dancer,” “Your Song” and “Bennie and the Jets.” Following the performance – celebrating the release of his 32nd studio album, Wonderful Crazy Night – John donated his Yamaha piano to the station.
Wonderful Crazy Night finds the musician working with longtime lyricist Bernie Taupin and reuniting with several essential band members, resulting in a set of “optimistic” songs. “I wanted to make a happy record,” John told Rolling Stone of his instructions to Taupin. “‘Joyous’ was the word I chose. Not happy, joyous. I said I want it to feel joyous from beginning to end, and even the slow songs should be joyous.”
“There is a matured pacing and weight to the music and John’s vocal performances that make this record one of his finest in its own right,” wrote Rolling Stone critic David Fricke in his four-star review.
