Watch Drake Collaborator Sampha’s Intense ‘Blood On Me’ Video
British R&B singer Sampha, better known for working with hip-hop luminaries like Drake and Kanye West, has emerged under his own name. The video for “Blood on Me” accompanies the second single from his anticipated debut LP Process.
The tense Alex Lill-directed video is divided into three portions that play on the foreboding, paranoid nature of the lyrics. In the first three minutes of the video, Sampha runs in a large field of wheat and with wild dogs at a racetrack in his trademark yellow hoodie. For the video’s final third, Sampha is seen impaled by branches after his vehicle somehow crashes into a tree in the middle of a field. The car’s slow motion descent back to the ground features during the video’s final moments.
“Blood On Me” is Sampha’s first solo video after beginning his career as a powerhouse songwriter and producer for Drake (“Too Much”), Kanye West (“Saint Pablo”), FKA twigs (“Numbers”) and Jessie Ware (“Valentine”), as well as an appearance on Frank Ocean’s Endless. The singer recently made his U.S. television debut on the September 1st episode of Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
Sampha returns to North America in October for a brief tour.
