Watch David Gilmour’s Lonesome ‘Wish You Were Here’ on ‘Kimmel’

Former Pink Floyd guitarist also kicks out “Rattle That Lock” from latest solo LP

David Gilmour treated Pink Floyd fans who’d gathered for an outdoor concert hosted by Jimmy Kimmel Live Monday to a gorgeous rendition of “Wish You Were Here.”

The former Floyd singer and guitarist breezed through the indelible acoustic ballad, remaining faithful to the original down to the “do-do-do” melodies he sang over his guitar playing. Gilmour’s “Wish You Were Here” did feature one significant addition, however, as a pedal steel player added a wonderful, lonesome country tinge to the beloved 1975 song.

Gilmour also turned things up with a stomping performance of “Rattle That Lock,” the bluesy title cut from his 2015 solo album. Joined by a trio of back up singers whose harmonies added an ominous tone to the proceedings, Gilmour growled through the song and let loose with two quintessentially heroic guitar solos.

Gilmour recently kicked off a short string of North American tour dates in support of Rattle That Lock. He’s set for a two-night stand in Toronto March 31st and April 1st, followed by shows in Chicago and New York.
