Watch Damon Albarn Join Forces With De La Soul, Brian Eno at Royal Albert Hall

Damon Albarn brought out a bevy of special guests during his career-spanning concert Saturday night at London’s Royal Albert Hall. On tour to promote his debut solo album Everyday Robots, the Blur and Gorillaz frontman took the opportunity to showcase his wide range of collaborators, past and present.

After an 18-song set that featured tracks from the new album along with plenty of Gorillaz, the Good, the Bad and the Queen and Mali Music, Albarn launched the first encore on a nostalgic note, joined by Blur bandmate Graham Coxon for a trio of the band’s classic songs: “End of a Century,” “The Man Who Left Himself” and “Tender.”

Da La Soul took the stage during the second encore and demanded a moment of silence “for the love of good music” before letting out a roar as the group tore into their crowd-pleasing Gorillaz song “Feel Good Inc.”

The evening closed out with a massive on-stage singalong of the Everyday Robots track “Heavy Seas of Love,” led off by Brian Eno with the Laytonstone City Mission Choir, who feature on the album.

In an interview with Rolling Stone last February, Albarn explained how Brian Eno came to be involved in the project. “He’s actually a neighbor of mine,” he said. “I’ve gotten to know him since we belong to the same health club, though we engage in very different activities. Mine are mind-numbing, machine-based running things. He was doing something much more interesting: unisex water aerobics. Even in the health club, he’s being Brian Eno. I just figured you don’t hear his voice very often, so I thought it would be a great idea to get him to sing.”
