Watch Conor Oberst, Patty Griffin’s Moving Emmylou Harris Cover
Conor Oberst teamed up with Shawn Colvin and Patty Griffin for a heartbroken rendition of Emmylou Harris‘ “The Pearl.” The cover was recorded during last year’s tribute to the beloved country singer.
While Oberst and the backing band delivered a faithful instrumental rendition of “The Pearl,” Oberst delivered a heartfelt vocal performance, scuffing the song with some extra dirt where Harris’ crystalline voice would’ve soared. That harmonious element of “The Pearl” was still there in Colvin and Griffin’s searing background vocals.
Oberst, Griffin and Colvin’s rendition of “The Pearl” will appear on the upcoming concert album and movie, The Life & Songs of Emmylou Harris: An All-Star Concert Celebration. The release will be available on CD, DVD, Blu-ray and digitally November 11th via Rounder Records. The show also features performances from Mavis Staples, Kris Kristofferson, Steve Earle, Iron & Wine and Lucinda Williams.
