Carly Rae Jepsen will release her new album Emotion on August 21st, and on Friday, the Canadian singer premiered the music video for the LP’s opening track “Run Away With Me.” A departure from her celebrity-filled “I Really Like You” video starring Tom Hanks and Justin Bieber, “Run Away With Me” has a more personal, cinéma vérité feel, giving a first-person view of what it looks like jet-setting with Jepsen around the globe.
The David Kalani Larkins-directed clip was filmed DIY and lo-fi during Jepsen’s recent Emotion promotional tour. “I didn’t even know we were making a music video until about halfway through it,” Jepsen said in a statement. “David always has a camera in his hand and he has a way about him that makes you forget that it’s there. It became a part of our daily adventure on the road to film as we went. Promo tour can be a blur and I can remember watching over his shoulder as he uploaded the footage, recounting memories of the trip that I had almost already forgotten. This project became a way for us to slow down time and preserve the moments from magical places like Paris, New York and Japan.”

The “Run Away With Me” video first debuted on the Friday morning episode of The Today Show before heading to YouTube. The latest Emotion single joins smash “I Really Like You” as well as the album’s title track and the stunning “All That,” which Jepsen debuted on Saturday Night Live. The album also features collaborations with Sia, Greg Kurstin, Ariel Rechtshaid, Devonté Hynes, Vampire Weekend’s Rostam Batmanglij and more. “Run Away With Me” was co-produced by Shellback and Mattman & Robin.
In the lead-up to Emotion, fans who pre-ordered the album will receive more tracks before the entire album arrives August 21st: “Warm Blood” on July 31st, “Making the Most of the Night” on August 7th and “Your Type” on August 14th.
