Watch Britney Spears’ Career-Spanning Billboard Music Awards Performance
Britney Spears opened the Billboard Music Awards with a career-spanning medley of her hits. Spears is this year’s recipient of the Billboard Millennium award.
Clad in red and entering through the fog, Spears launched her medley with “Work Bitch,” channeling a futuristic ringmaster. She went as far back as 2001 for her set list, performing her cover of “I Love Rock ‘N’ Roll” after her 2008 hit “Womanizer.” The star and her dancers powered through deep cuts like “Touch of My Hand” and “Breathe on Me” as well as classics like “I’m a Slave 4 U” and “Toxic,” which closed her ferocious opening performance.
Following the release of 2013’s Britney Jean, Spears launched a residency in Las Vegas at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. She extended her contract last year and will remain at Planet Hollywood through 2017.
Her first hints at a follow-up to her 2013 album came last year with “Pretty Girls,” which featured writing credit from girl group Little Mix and a guest spot from Iggy Azaela who also co-directed the Earth Girls Are Easy-inspired music video. It was performed live for the first time at the 2015 Billboard Music Awards. Around the same time, Spears appeared on Giorgio Moroder’s star-studded comeback album Déjà Vu doing a disco cover of “Tom’s Diner.”
