Blood Orange’s Dev Hynes glides through a dance studio with ballet dancer Maria Kochetkova in the simple but graceful video for “I Know.”
The clip opens with Hynes singing the song’s pensive intro straight into the studio mirror before the camera moves out to reveal Kochetkova – a principal at the San Francisco Ballet and American Ballet Theater – warming up in the corner. Shot in a slightly grainy Eighties style that matches the dance floor ballad vibe of “I Know,” the clip takes on a charming Flashdance feel as Hynes and Kochetkova move through their choreography, which alternately looks like a playful lesson and well-rehearsed routine.
“I Know” appears on Blood Orange’s latest record, Freetown Sound, which arrived in June. Previously, Hynes released a video for album cut “Augustine,” while in August he performed that song and “Thank You” on Conan as a tribute to recent murder victims Terrence McCrary Jr., Philando Castile and Hande Kader.
