Watch Bastille Play a Cinematic Version of ‘Pompeii’ – Video Premiere
Last year, Bastille released their debut album Bad Blood, which spawned several successful singles including the massive hit “Pompeii.” In this new video, the British alt-rockers perform a cinematic rendition of the song, backed by a large string section, in the historic Capitol Records building.

“Because we generally write and produce our songs at the same time, it’s nice to take the songs out of their normal context and have fun with them,” frontman Dan Smith tells Rolling Stone. “I’m obsessed with film scores, so to play such a cinematic version of ‘Pompeii’ with musicians who soundtrack Hollywood films on a daily basis was an amazing experience. We made our album in a tiny underground studio in London. To be able to spend the night in the main room of Capitol Studios recording this version was completely awesome for us.”
This isn’t the first video to come out of Bastille’s time spent at the Capitol Records building. Last November, the group shared a clip of their intimate performance of “Oblivion,” another Bad Blood track.
Bastille are currently on tour in the U.S. and will be performing at Coachella 2014.
